Frequently asked questions

How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?

The initial intake session is 60 minutes, and standard follow-up sessions are 50 minutes. For clients engaging in EMDR therapy, 90-minute sessions are also available when clinically appropriate. Session frequency is based on individual needs and symptom severity; however, I typically recommend weekly sessions at the start of treatment to build a strong therapeutic relationship, set clear goals, and create a personalized treatment plan.

What’s your cancellation policy?

I kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows me enough time to offer the spot to another client who may need it. You’re welcome to call, text, or email me to make any changes. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments without notice, will be charged a $100 fee. To help you stay on track, my client portal sends convenient appointment reminders by email and/or text.

Can I contact you between sessions if I am in crisis?

I see clients Monday through Thursday during regular business hours. Since I’m in solo private practice, I may not be able to respond to messages, emails, or calls in the evenings or on weekends. I totally understand that this might not work for everyone, and if you’re looking for a therapist with more flexible or after-hours availability, I’m happy to share referrals that might be a better fit for you. For after hours emergencies,

Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

Both! In-person sessions are available at my office in Carlsbad, CA, and I also provide secure virtual therapy for clients anywhere in the state of California.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in-network with Medi-Cal of San Diego County and do not participate with Medi-Cal plans from other counties (such as Riverside, Los Angeles, or Orange County). I am not in-network with any other insurance providers. However, if you have a PPO plan, I am considered an out-of-network provider. I’m happy to provide a Superbill at the end of each month, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network services, but coverage and deductible amounts vary. Please contact your insurance provider directly to learn more about your benefits.

Are there options for reduced-fee or pro bono therapy if I can't afford the full rate?

Mental health care should be accessible to everyone, but I recognize that financial barriers, lack of insurance, and systemic inequalities often make it difficult—especially for underserved and marginalized communities—to get the support they need. I offer a limited number of pro bono/sliding scale spots as part of my commitment to increasing access to care and reducing the gaps that keep many people from receiving mental health support. Everyone deserves a safe space to heal, grow, and be heard—regardless of their financial situation.

If my practice is full or my reduced-fee slots are unavailable, I’m happy to provide referrals to trusted providers or similar resources.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate is just a breakdown of what you can expect to pay for therapy. It’s part of a law (No Surprises Act) that helps make sure there are no surprise costs. If you don’t have insurance or aren’t using it, I’ll provide you with a written estimate of the total expected cost of therapy. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call or call (800) 368-1019.
